Legendary former Barcelona forward recommends two striker signings for club

Former Barcelona forward and club legend Patrick Kluivert has recommended the names of two strikers who the club should look to sign in the summer transfer window.

Barça roped in Robert Lewandowski to bolster their frontline last summer. The Poland captain has been a huge success at Camp Nou thus far, but there are no reliable backup options at manager Xavi Hernandez’s disposal.

It has led the Catalans to scour the market for a new striker next summer, with president Joan Laporta admitting as much in a media interaction recently.

And, Kluivert, who spent six years as a player at Barcelona between 1998 and 2004, has recommended the names of SL Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos and Liverpool veteran Roberto Firmino as options for the Catalan heavyweights.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said: “Financial fair play is something you have to take into account, but who is on my wish list? It definitely has to be a striker. Because after Lewandowski you need to have a centre-forward.

“I like Gonçalo Ramos a lot. I like that player and he has done a very good job for the Portugal national team and also at Benfica. Firmino at Barcelona I think would also be a very interesting player.

“A striker is what is needed to empower Barcelona. The rest is fine if they all stay.”

Roberto Firmino is set to become a free agent in the summer, with his contract at Liverpool expiring at the end of the season. There have been some links to Barcelona, but nothing concrete.

As for Goncalo Ramos, the Portuguese ace is contracted with Benfica until 2026 and will command a massive price in the summer, which pretty much puts him out of Barça’s reach.

Neither are on the Blaugrana’s radar at this point, though, with the club focused on signing Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense to bolster their attacking unit.
